A wildfire in Bell County has sparked up, igniting the response of practically all Bell County fire crews.

The fire started around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday on FM 2484 and Union Grove Park, south of Stillhouse Hollow Lake.

Fire Marshal Steve Casey says the fire started after a transformer exploded, causing a power line to drop.

The fire has burned the west side of that area all the way to the lake and fire crews are now trying to protect the east side of the area, but are having difficulty due to the rocky terrain.

No structures have been burned by the blaze and authorities say no homes are being threatened.

There is a voluntary evacuation in effect for homes in the area due to the smoke caused by the fire.

Fire crews asked for air support from Fort Hood and the Texas Forest Service.

The West Side Strike Team was called out to help with the fire that has so far burned between 300 and 500 acres.

At 5:20 p.m. two airplanes flew over the fire dropping fire retardant on the fire.

The fire is 50 percent contained at this time.
