Three Days of Rain Helps, But Drought Still Going

(KCEN) Central Texas has received inches of rain over a three day rain stretch, with some areas reporting as much as 3.71 inches according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service reported that Waco received 2.58 inches of rain from Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. It reports Temple received 1.55 inches and Killeen received 1.11 inches for the same time period.

In Groesbeck, the National Weather Service reported a total of 2.5 inches. A weather spotter reported 3.71 inches of rain in Thornton, from Friday through early Monday.

Across Bell County, rainfall totals were between 1 and 2.25 inches from Friday through early Monday. In McLennan the National Weather Service reports rainfall totals from 1.75 to 2.58 inches for the same time period.

So what does all of this mean for the drought? Well it helps but we are still in it. As of midnight Monday Waco was below where it needed to be for precipitation by 7.97 inches, compared to Friday at midnight when Waco was below normal precipitation by 9.37 inches.

Get ready for a cold week with chilly days and very cold nights. Highs will stay in the 40s through Wednesday with overnight lows dipping to the 20s by Tuesday overnight.
