The crash is still under investigation.
WACO (KCEN)- One person is dead after a crash Friday morning in Waco.
The accident happened in the westbound lanes of Waco Drive near 36th Street when a Mercury Mountaineer slammed into a Ford pickup truck just before 6:40 a.m.
The collision caused the pickup to catch fire and killed the driver.
Miranda Monique Campbell of Waco has been identified as the driver of the Mercury Mountaineer and 39-year-old Cindy Ann Murray has been identified as the passenger in the vehicle.
They were both taken to Hillcrest Hospital with minor injuries. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
Murray, who was inside the Mountaineer, told officers that Campbell was traveling over 100 miles per hour at the time of the collision.
Waco Drive was shutdown in both directions while officers worked to investigate and clear the scene.
Police told KCEN-HD News that just before 6:20 a.m. Campbell walked into the Waco police station and was highly agitated and demanded water. Police were forced to handcuff her.
"She got a little aggressive with the officers, for their safety they handcuffed her until they figured out who she was and what the issue was," Sgt. Patrick Swanton of the Waco police department said.
Without any criminal charges or reason to believe she was dangerous officers let her go.
"The friend told officers she would drive her home, the friend got her back in the vehicle and she left the police department," Sgt. Swanton said.
However, within the next 30 minutes the women were stopped by police two more times for stopping their SUV in the middle of Waco Drive and again Campbell requested more water. Officers say again there was no reason to arrest the two.
"Somewhere between that point and the crash here at 36th and Waco she got into the driver's side of the vehicle and obviously caused the collision," Sgt. Swanton said.
The collision caused the pickup to catch fire and the driver was killed.
"It's ridiculous someone would be driving that fast down Waco Drive, but they speed like maniacs down this street all the time," Thomas Orsak a Waco resident said.
