Hood Howdy Welcomes Families to Post

Posted: Updated:

More than a thousand Fort Hood families got a Texas-sized welcome today.

Twice a year the Hood Howdy event helps newcomers and others adjust to life on post.

About a hundred businesses and agencies were there to tell them about local programs and activities.

From school enrollment to medical care and even job searches, it was a one stop shop Army wife Jennifer Wolfe said she just couldn't pass up.

"It's not always easy for the wives to get out with the kids, and we can kind of hit up every single thing at one stop, so it's really nice," said Wolfe.

Sarah Fuller came to Fort Hood in October and says she's glad to learn about schools and medical care for her family of four.

"We don't really have a doctor or a dentist or anything established, so there's a lot people here giving information, so I appreciate that," Fuller said.

That all took place at Club Hood, and organizers say it's grown so much that they might soon need a new venue.

The next event is scheduled for August and is expected to be even bigger since all the kids will be out of school.
