UPDATE: The roadway is now open to traffic after the water leak was repaired.
However, officials say in the coming week the roadway will need to be resurfaced.
No boil water notice is in effect as result of this incident.
COPPERAS COVE (KCEN)– Copperas Cove is experiencing a water main break on West Avenue D at Wolfe Road.
There is currently no traffic being allowed to travel off Highway 190 and westbound onto Avenue D. There is also no access to Avenue D from Wolfe Road.
The city says motorists should prepare for traffic congestion during the evening rush and avoid the intersection if at all possible.
According to Wesley Wright, Copperas Cove Public Works Division Head, "Repairs are on-going and the road is expected to remain closed until late evening hours, possibly as late as midnight."
Businesses on the north side of the highway from MLK Jr Drive to East Avenue D are also currently without water.
Wright added that "water quality has not been compromised and no water boil is in affect at this time." Please use caution while driving through the area for the safety of the workers.
