Fort Hood Culinary Team Prepares For National Competition

Posted: Updated:

FORT HOOD (KCEN)- The III Corps and Fort Hood culinary team is headed for big things.

Next week they head to a national championship for their food, and how it's presented.

Wednesday KCEN HD got a sneak peak at how they are getting ready.

It's all about the details. The III Corps and Fort Hood culinary team is presenting their tables, getting ready for the national competition next week.

It means that if one piece doesn't look right, or doesn't fit with the plate, they take it away.

MSG Anthony Roscoe of the Fort Hood culinary team discovered his love for food when he got into the military, and it's been his passion ever since.

"Everything in the house belongs to my wife but the kitchen belongs to me," Roscoe said.

The competition next week will have international judges.

The judges will taste everything from desserts, to five course meals, and looking at the craftsmanship of a chocolate and lard cowboy.

They also practice how to fix things on the fly.

"It's very delicate and the wind could blow it now she's gotta go back and get the pipe and fix it real quick," Roscoe said.

Just a fan could make or break a cake.

Roscoe doesn't ever pass up the chance to taste others work, even if it looks good, but tastes awful.

"Oh wow I had a cream of tartar pie one time and that was one of the worst things I've ever eaten in my life," Roscoe said.

They start traveling on the Feb. 23, and the competition begins on the  Feb. 25.
