WACO (KCEN)- A 26-year-old man is now in police custody after allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and her two children from a South Waco apartment.
Police say Darrel Wayne Stewart, 26, went to the woman's apartment in the 2400 block of S. 21st street at 5 a.m. Thursday, forced his way into the apartment and physically assaulted the woman.
He then forced the victim, her 7-month-old baby and 2-year-old into her car and sped away on Highway 84. Police say Stewart told the victim he was going to take her and her children somewhere and kill them.
As the car neared the Boys Ranch on Highway 84, the woman started fighting with Stewart and Stewart pushed her out of the car, causing several broken bones and numerous cuts. As the victim attempted to get away police say Stewart caught her and dragged her back into the car.
Stewart then stopped the car at a convenience store in Mexia, apologized to the victim and went inside the store to get bandages for her. As he left, the victim was able to get into the driver's seat and drive away from the area.
The victim drove back to Waco to report the incident.
The two children were unharmed in the incident.
Stewart was arrested at his home at 2320 Summer at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. He is charged with three counts of aggravated kidnapping. Stewart also had warrants for failure to pay child support.
