Program-Record Three Bears Selected in NBA Draft

Posted: Updated:

Newark, N.J. – A program-record three Baylor players – Perry Jones III, Quincy Acy and Quincy Miller – were selected during Thursday's 2012 NBA Draft held at Prudential Center.

Thursday marked only the second time that multiple Baylor players were taken in the NBA Draft. In 1988, Micheal Williams was selected in second round by Detroit and the third round by Atlanta, respectively.

Despite not receiving Green Room invitations, all three players were in attendance. Jones III was selected No. 28 overall by the NBA Western Conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder. The Duncanville, Texas, native became the fifth first-round NBA draft pick in program history and first since Ekpe Udoh went No. 6 overall in 2010 to Golden State.

Acy and Miller were later drafted with back-to-back picks; Acy went No. 37 overall to Toronto, while Miller went to Denver at No. 38 overall.

Jones III averaged 13.5 points and 7.6 rebounds in 33 games and helped lead Baylor to the Elite Eight for the second time in three seasons. He was one of two Baylor players to earn All-American honorable mention from The Associated Press, while also picking up USBWA All-District VII and NABC All-District 8 honors. He was a second-team All-Big 12 selection by the AP, ESPN.com and Kansas City Star and third-team by the league coaches.

Acy, a 2012 second-team All-Big 12 performer, concluded his career as a member of the winningest senior class in program history, boasting 100 career victories. He is one of only two players in program history to rank in the top 10 in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage (Skinner). The Mesquite, Texas, native finished with 1,360 career points and 828 career rebounds.

Miller became the first Baylor player to earn conference freshman of the year honors since 1995, Brian Skinner was the Southwest Conference Freshman of the Year. The Chicago, Ill., product averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 37 games, making 35 starts. In addition to Big 12 Co-Freshman of the Year honors from the league coaches, Miller was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year by Sporting News. He was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection and a unanimous Big 12 All-Rookie choice by the league coaches.

Baylor finished the 2011-12 season with a school-record 30 wins and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second time in three seasons.
