Body of Missing Texas A&M Student Found, Apparent Suicide

Posted: Updated:

The body of a missing Texas A&M student has been found in Marlin and investigators believe it was suicide.

Marlin police found the body of Anthony Carey in the woods off County Road 287 with what they say was a self inflicted gun shot wound.

The 22 year old left Houston for College Station on Thursday. That was the last time anyone saw him. Police found his Mitsubishi Lancer on the side of the road in Marlin and found his body in the wooded area near it late Monday evening.

They believe he parked his car and walked straight into the woods where he took his own life. Police have not said what he was doing in Marlin, but say suicides are unpredictable. "It's hard to say that's something weird versus something else. Anytime somebody chooses to take their own life its unusual," says Detective Rob Douglas with Marlin Police.

Carey was a senior member of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. His body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.
