UPDATE (KCEN) -- The man who was killed in a hit and run accident on 31st Street in Temple on August 27 has been identified as 57-year-old Charles Garnet McNiel III of Temple.

(KCEN) -- Temple police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a man on South 31st Street on August 27.
Around 11:40 last night, police received a call from someone who had noticed a man laying on the street just north of the S.W. H.K. Dodgen Loop overpass. They responded and took the man to Scott & White where he died a short time later.
Officers say the man was walking on 31st Street when he was hit by a vehicle traveling north. The person driving did not stop but fled the scene instead.
The victim's identity will not be released until his family has been notified.
The Temple Police Traffic Unit's Accident Reconstruction Team gathered evidence and describe the vehicle as a dark color Ford Mustang with high-intensity headlamps that are possibly tinted blue. The vehicle has not been located yet.
