Temple Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team is worked to determine the sequence of Thursdays events.

 Update

The Temple Police Traffic Unit Accident Reconstruction Team's initial investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling west on the S.W. H.K. Dodgen (AKA Loop 363) service road, which is the second level of a three-level interchange with Interstate 35.  As the rider of the motorcycle attempted to begin or end a turning maneuver, he apparently lost control and struck the concrete/metal guardrail on the right (which is the northernmost rail for the westbound lanes).  The impact caused the rider to fall off his motorcycle and over the guardrail, onto the highway below.

Once the rider came to a rest in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35, vehicles traveling there were unable to avoid striking him.  At least two vehicles struck him, causing fatal injuries.  No one was else was injured, and all the drivers involved did stop.

The deceased man has been identified as Christopher Herring, a 24-year-old Killeen man.

Traffic was re-opened on Interstate 35 at about 10:50 pm.  TPD Accident Reconstruction  Officers gathered evidence at the scene until about 1:30 am.  The investigation continues.
