
Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team fell to Wayland Baptist in its season opener 2-1 on Friday night. The Cru falls to 0-1 on the season while the Patriots earn a 1-0 record.
Wayland Baptist took a 1-0 lead when Javier Perry scored at the 4:26 mark on a breakaway. The Cru evened the score in the second half when newcomer Tyler Pate scored off an assist from freshman Jordan Freeman in the 49th minute. The Patriots took the lead once again with a goal from Mamadou Sanon at the 61:51 mark to seal the victory.
Both teams posted a total of eight shots on the day. Goalkeepers Brandon Stegmeyer and Blake Lander combined to record two saves for the UMHB defense. Wayland Baptist also recorded two saves for the game. Cru men will be back in action tomorrow when they face Austin College in a 5 p.m. kickoff in Sherman, Texas.
