(KCEN) -- There's another sign of the war winding down in Afghanistan.

U.S. forces have formally handed over control of a prison outside Kabul to Afghan officials.

The prison is located on the U.S.' massive Bagram Air Base and houses thousands of Taliban members and other terror suspects.

It is the only large-scale U.S-run detention facility in the country.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai hailed the transfer as a victory for Afghan sovereignty.
