(KCEN) -- A Texas woman is hoping to become the first person to receive a double arm transplant.
Katy Hayes lost all four limbs to a life-threatening strep infection after giving birth to her third child in 2010.
She was smiling as Boston doctors announced she would be a part of history, receiving two new arms.
Hayes says she feels like a pioneer and hopes she can be a source of inspiration for U.S. soldiers returning home without limbs.
She said, "If I can be there for them and help them through their journey that's kinda where I'm aiming to go with what is happening."
Hayes is now waiting for a donor.
The New England donor bank is conducting the search.
