(KCEN) -- The first man on the moon was laid to rest this morning.

A national memorial service was held at the National Cathedral in honor of astronaut Neil Armstrong.

Armstrong was commander of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon in 1969.

He died last month due to complications in heart surgery.

Armstrong was 82.
