TANAGURA, Japan –
Baylor men's golf led all American teams and finished fifth overall after shooting a final-round 8-over-par 288 on Thursday at the 2012 Topy Cup at Tanagura Country Club in Tanagura, Japan.
"Overall,
it was a great experience for the guys, and being able to play with
Osaka Gakuin and Tohoku Fukushi was really special. They are really
good," head coach Greg Priest said. "I liked
our effort, but we have a long way to go to get to where we want to be
this year."
Official
stats are not yet available. The Bears (+9; 275-286-288=849) ended up
in fifth place behind Tohoku Fukuski (-24; 273-267-276=816), Osaka
Gakuin (-11; 273-277-279=829), Nihon (-2; 279-276-283=838)
and Senshu (-2; 283-273-282=838), but Baylor's finish was the best of
four American teams in the field.
Sophomore
Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen (-4; 66-71-69=206) finished seventh individually
after shooting 1-under 69 to finish at 4-under-par 206. The 54-hole
total was seven shots better than Bjerch-Andresen's
previous record of 213 set in three tournaments last season.
"It
was great to see Mikkel play well this week," Priest said. "Hopefully
he can continue to play this well into the next tournament and
throughout the season."
