Bats Being Used to Combat Mosquitoes

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- With a month of mosquito season still left, some north Texans have found an all-natural way to fight the bite.

People living around White Rock Lake are putting up bat houses.

Wondering why? Bats eat all kinds of flying insects, especially mosquitoes.

And they can eat their entire body weight in one night.

Bat house owner Scott Blythe said, "Yeah it does help, it's definitely beneficial. And you do notice it, and you'll see them flying all around you and through the trees and it does seem to be, all of a sudden there's no insects."

Bat houses can be found for about 60 dollars at garden centers, bird food centers and home improvement stores.
