(KCEN) -- The Tommy Hilfiger brand is known as preppy, all-American and chic.
But what some people don't know about this big designer is that he's also a collector of art and real estate.
Hilfiger lives in one of the most famous hotels in the world, the Plaza hotel.
His two story, 6,000 square foot apartment took three years to complete.
It has old world charm and a modern twist with contemporary art.
Liz Taylor, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe all adorn his walls.
His office has parts of the original New York Times building and a room is inspired by the book "Eloise".
But he does have advice for living the good life on a budget.
Hilfiger said, "Buy what you like. And you can go to flea markets, you can go to rummage sales, you can go to antique places and find really, really great pieces for not a lot of money. And I think if you surround yourself with things you love, then it makes for a great home design."
Hilfiger has three homes that he shuffles between.
One in New York, one in Connecticut and one on the island of Mustique.
