(KCEN) -- As Dallas-based American Airlines restructures due to bankruptcy, thousands of workers could now lose their jobs.

In the worst case scenario, almost 3,000 ground workers and mechanics in north Texas alone could be laid off.

In a letter to employees, the company officially informed the Transport Workers Union that more than 11,000 employees nationwide may be affected.

The layoffs are set to begin on or around November 16.
