(KCEN) -- Should religious messages be allowed on banners at high school football games?
One small Texas town has put a stop to using bible verses on run-through banners.
That's because they got a complaint about a bible verse that read "I can do all things though Christ which strengthens me."
Kountze cheerleaders say the idea for banners with scriptures from the bible came up at cheer camp.
But the superintendent's subsequent decision to discontinue those banners has been met with a backlash from the town of 2,000.
In a statement, the superintendent commended the cheerleaders for what they stand for.
But he said he's legally obligated to keep religion on the sidelines, regardless of whether or not it is led by students.
