(KCEN) -- Former McLennan County Tax Assessor Buddy Skeen is in the McLennan County Jail awaiting his appeal bond hearing on Friday.
If the bond is granted, it will allow him to stay out of jail during the appeal process.
Skeen pleaded guilty to misusing government property on Tuesday and yesterday a jury sentenced him to probation and a $10,000 fine.
But Judge Johnson set Skeen's probation at five years and added 180 days in jail.
And Skeen was ordered to pay the $10,000 fine and serve 400 hours of community service.
The 69-year-old served as McLennan County's Tax Assessor for almost 24 years.
And despite Skeen's guilty plea he will not lose his pension.
According to the Texas County and District Retirement System, state law does not provide for any reduction in a member's pension benefits due to the member's criminal conviction.
The system would not tell us the amount of Skeen's pension.
