(KCEN) -- Another milestone was met in the war in Afghanistan last night.
The last of 33,000 surge troops sent there two years ago have left the country, according to U.S. officials.
Their goal was to stabilize the country so U.S. and international trainers could develop Afghan security forces.
Their departure leaves 68,000 American forces still in the war zone.
NATO forces plan to be completely out of Afghanistan by the end of 2014.
