(KCEN) -- The number of people filing for their first week of unemployment benefits fell slightly last week.
The Labor Department says 383,000 people filed first-time jobless claims in the week ending September 15.
That number is higher than what some economists were expecting.
The report follows last week's closely watched August jobs reports.
Employers had added only 96,000 to payrolls in the month, less than needed to keep up with population growth.
