(KCEN) -- The new female commander of Air Force Basic Training is downplaying any significance of her gender.
Colonel Deborah Liddick took command Friday of the 737th training group at San Antonio's Lackland Air Force Base.
She takes charge following a sex scandal that led to criminal charges against six male instructors.
Military investigators have identified more than 40 women at the base who say they were victims of harassment and sexual assault within the last year.
Col Liddick says, "It does not matter if I'm male or female. As a commander, it's still the same standards. It's still the same discipline."
Four male instructors at Lackland have been convicted.
A fifth is scheduled to go on trial Monday.
