UPDATE: Gateway Students to Continue Classes, Relocated to New Building

(KCEN) UPDATE 9/23 3:30 PM -- In an official statement released today the Killeen Independent School District said the Gateway Middle School facility will not be operational for the near future.

Classes will proceed tomorrow, September 24th, for all Gateway Middle students and Gateway High students will attend school as normal.

Middle school students will be relocated to the former KISD Career Center/Pathways complex located at 3004 Atkinson Ave in Killeen.

For all current Gateway middle school students who ride the bus stops and times will be the same, but students will be transported to the new location on Atkinson.

Students who walk to Gateway Middle School or whose parents drop them off will continue to do so.

They should be dropped off at the front side of the Gateway High School located on Zephyr Road.

Buses will then transport middle school students to the new location on Atkinson Ave, and at the end of the school day will return those same students to Gateway High School on Zephyr Road.

Parents may also drop off and pick up middle school students directly at the new location at 3004 Atkinson Avenue.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided as usual.

The campus will be sending out an automated phone call with this same information for students at Gateway High School and Gateway Middle School.

(KCEN) UPDATE 8:30 PM -- According to officials, police and firefighters spent approximately two hours battling the flames at the Gateway Middle School in Killeen.

They responded to a call at 3:42 PM at the school located in the 1300 block of Gowen Drive.

The building was completely destroyed by the fire and the surrounding buildings also experienced substantial fire damage along with smoke and water damage.

Killeen Independent School District officials were also on the scene and are currently assessing the damage.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

(KCEN) UPDATE 6:45 PM -- Firefighters were able to extinguish the massive flames at Gateway Middle School in Killeen today.

Officials say firefighters continue to search for possible hot spots.

No one was inside the school building at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown

(KCEN) --  There is a massive fire today at the Gateway Middle School in Killeen.

Killeen Police and firefighters responded to a call at 3:42 PM and when they arrived discovered the building was fully engulfed in flames.

Three fire trucks and one EMS unit are at the scene.

Nobody was inside the building at the time of the fire.

The fire has not spread to Gateway High School which is directly adjacent to the middle school.

Public Information Officer Carroll Smith says, "The fire has done some significant damage."

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

There is no word yet on how this will effect classes Monday morning.
