(KCEN) -- Today was the first ribbon tying ceremony outside the McLane Children's Hospital in Temple.
September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.
Several families and survivors gathered in front of the children's hospital to tie ribbons around trees in remembrance of those who lost their lives.
In attendance was also several survivors who were excited to spread awareness.
Ashley Neujahr, a cancer survivor, says, "You don't ever hear about brain cancer or leukemia or the little strands like medulloblastoma, you don't hear about that. This event makes me happy."
The gold ribbons will be displayed all month long.
