
Killeen, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's golf team cut the lead, but the Cru could not completely close out the gap and took second place at the UMHB Fall Invitational Tuesday afternoon in Killeen. The UMHB men fired a 292-297=589 team total and finished just one stroke behind team champion Northwood University's 289-299=588. The UMHB Gold Team tied for sixth place after carding a 308-312=620 to tie with Mississippi College (298-322). Southwestern University took third place after posting a 298-305=603. Tyler Junior College claimed fourth place with a 295-311=606 and U.T.-Brownsville rounded out the top five with a 298-316=614. Murray State was eighth with a 313-309=622, Hardin-Simmons moved up to ninth place, finishing with a 314-311=625, Jacksonville College (312-314) and Murray State's JV (309-317) tied for tenth place with 626's. TAMU-Texarkana finished 12th with a 317-319=636, Texas Lutheran's JV was 13th at 315-331=646, Louisiana College finished 14th with a 328-319=647 and University of Dallas rounded out the field with a 380-405=685. The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-72, 7,113-yard layout at Stone Tree Golf Course in Killeen.
Pablo Mena Medrano was the top individual finisher for the Cru. Medrano tied for second place with a 72-73=145, finishing just two strokes behind individual champion Cameron Lindell of Tyler Junior College (68-75=143). Ryan Berry shot 74-73=147 for UMHB to tie for fourth place, Justin Judkins tied for sixth place with a 78-70=148 and Robby Schimmels also posted a top ten finish, tying for eighth place with a 71-78=149. Brady Purdom fired a 75-76=151 to tie for 16th place, Stayton Lindeman's 74-78=152 was good for a tie for 23rd, Spencer Turner tied for 25th with a 77-76=153, Matt Day (77-84) and Bryce Myburgh (81-80) both shot 161's to tie for 51st, Caleb Asp (76-86) and Brian Kauffman (82-80) both posted 162's to tie for 56th place and Andrew VanStratum tied for 58th with an 80-83=163.
The UMHB men will return to action with the Al Jones Memorial Tournament. That tournament will be played in Tyler on October 1st and 2nd.
