(KCEN) -- A Texas mom is accused of leaving her one of her two children behind in a shopping cart, after she was nearly caught shoplifting in Houston.

The 21-year-old woman is charged with child abandonment.

She and a friend were allegedly stealing items from Target by putting them in their purses.

When a store employee tried to stop them, police say she ran, holding one baby in her arms. But her other child was left behind.

Police haven't arrested the 21-year-old yet, but at Target they took the child from the store and placed her with a grandparent.
