Neighbors To Take Back The Streets After Waco Home Invasion Scare

Posted: Updated:

A home invasion scare has neighbors taking action.

Police responded to a distress call from 2119 Bosque in Waco Wednesday morning at around 5:30, waking up several neighbors.

"It's like police everywhere and the road was blocked off," said neighbor Doris Mason.

"I heard a lot of sirens and the dog was barking. And I came outside and saw police everywhere," said Jeremy Brown.

The woman who called police said someone was trying to break in to her home, and her brother fired several shots out the window.

Neighbors say they're getting sick of hearing about things like this so close to home.

"I'm thinking about putting a fence around and getting me a pit bull," said neighbor Laura Slaughter.

No one was shot and police found no evidence of a break-in around the house. But the incident has neighbors talking about re-instating the old neighborhood watch.

"You know 'you watch my back, I watch yours, I see anything strange I'll report it' we kind of got together and decided that this morning," Mason said.

"I think everyone should have protection in their home, to protect it," said J.T. Sherman.

And it's not just homes. Neighbors say the nearby package store has been robbed several times recently.

"If we see something that's not supposed to be there we know about it," Slaughter said.

Now, they'll act on it.  It's a stand of solidarity between older folks and kids alike.

"Walk around the neighborhood, drive around the neighborhood, look for strange vehicles you know we have kids here too and we're concerned about them," Mason said.

To help take back the peaceful neighborhood they've lived in for decades.
