(KCEN) -- The nation's airlines set a record on baggage fees.
U.S. Airlines collected more than 1.7 billion dollars in baggage fees during the first half of the year alone.
It's the largest amount ever collected from January to June.
The Bureau of Transportation reports that Delta Airlines collected the most at nearly $430 million, followed by United Airlines at $351 million.
Airlines began charging for a first checked suitcase in 2008, with fees climbing ever since.
