(KCEN) -- According to records obtained by the Houston Chronicle, Texans owe almost 11 billion dollars in unpaid child support.
There are about one million parents in Texas who are required to pay child support and almost half of them didn't fully pay in 2011.
A spokesperson for the Texas Attorney General's office said more parents are applying to have reduce their obligations as more of them are falling behind on payments.
The unstable economy and higher unemployment rates are most likely main causes in the increase of the amount of unpaid child support in the state.
