(KCEN) -- A Waco woman is in prison after police found her children running around in an alley and on streets naked.
On September 28 around 6 p.m. police responded to a call about kids playing in an alley.
They arrived at the house, located at 29th Street and Bagby, to find two children under the age of 10 playing in a backyard alley. They were not wearing any clothes and when officers arrived, the children took off running and ran into traffic on a nearby street.
Officers were unable to round up the children so they went to their house and convinced the children's mother to come get them.
Police then checked the condition of the house and found bugs in mattresses and on the floor, rotten food in the house on the floor, trash everywhere. There was not enough food in the house and the floor had fallen through in one of the bathrooms. There was also a strong smell of cat urine and evidence that a cat had urinated all over the home.
The children were covered in bug bites.
The mother told police she fell asleep for a little bit and the kids got out of the house.
CPS was contacted and they gave the kids over into the custody of their grandparents.
The mother, 24-year-old Kristi Kae Courtney, was charged with endangering a child and resisting arrest because she tried to fight an officer at the time of her arrest.
