UT Community Rallies Against Hate Crimes

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Dozens of students, faculty and alumni marched and rallied against racism at the University of Texas at Austin this week.

They're protesting a series of bizarre attacks.

Balloons filled with bleach have been dropped on minorities from high-rises on campus.

Jaysen Runnels says he's been the victim of so-called "bleach balloons" twice.

Runnels said, "A bleach balloon fell and hit me, my roommate, well almost hit us. It barely missed us. It's very frustrating, to know it's 2012 and stuff like this still happens."

Police have interviewed victims in four different incidents involving the liquid-filled balloons.

But they can't determine if the liquid was bleach inside the balloons.

They also say they don't know if the incidents were racially motivated.
