Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Jacob Turner, 27, was sentenced to 50 years in prison after a crash that left 64-year-old Peggy Cantrell dead in June of 2011.

Several witnesses called during the trial said that Turner was traveling at an excessive speed when his Explorer hit Cantrell's Dodge Neon.

Turner also had traces of heroin in his system at the time of the crash because he has taken heroin the Sunday before the accident happened. A witness said he probably wasn't under the influence of the drug at the time of the crash but trace amounts were still in his blood.

It was estimated by a crash reconstruction expert that at the moment of impact, Turner was traveling at 69.7 miles per hour and Cantrell was traveling at 19.3 miles per hour as she turned into the intersection.
