(KCEN) -- The FDA is cracking down on illegal Internet pharmacies.
The agency took action this week against more than 4,000 websites that illegally sell unapproved and possibly dangerous drugs to consumers.
It's part of a global effort to remove these websites by bringing civil and criminal charges against the operators and seizing the unapproved medications.
Letters were sent to website operators as well as Internet service providers and domain name registrars informing them they were in violation of U.S. Law.
