Man Arrested After Robbing 2 Women of Their Purses in Temple

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- A robbery suspect has been arrested in Temple after stealing two purses from women on October 4.

Around 7:50 yesterday morning Temple police responded to a robbery on North 2nd Street. They found an 85-year-old woman who said a man approached her as she got out of her car. He then tried to take her purse from her and she tried to hold onto it.

During the scuffle, the suspect pulled the woman into the street and got control of her purse. He then pushed her onto the ground. The victim suffered minor injuries.

The suspect, now identified as 34-year-old Anthony Lucas Diaz, then fled in a car parked nearby. The victim saw the license plate and provided it as well as a description of the vehicle, to police.

Then around 8:25 yesterday morning, about a half hour after the first robbery, officers were dispatched to North 3rd Street for another theft of a purse.

The victim said as soon as she entered work, she set her purse down on her desk and a man immediately came in and took it. He then fled to a vehicle.

A witness saw the suspect leave with the purse and was able to get a look at the license plate. The license plate matched the license plate from the previous robbery.

Officers found Diaz and the vehicle at an apartment complex in Temple a short time later. They arrested him and he is being held in the Bell County Jail on other charges.
