(KCEN) -- An unlikely character has been thrust into the national spotlight and is now the topic of the most tweets in history.
Despite Mitt Romney's fondness for Big Bird, he suggested during Wednesday night's debate that he would propose cutting funding for PBS, leaving Big Bird and the Sesame Street gang out in the cold.
Twitterverse then went in a national tail pin with more than a quarter million tweets going out about one of America's most beloved characters.
More than 10 million tweets went out altogether during the initial minutes of the debate, ranging from questions about Medicare to discussions on fact checking.
