(KCEN) -- In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, one famous monument went pink last night.
At 130 feet, Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue was lit up by pink lights while breast cancer survivors and campaigners looked on.
Breast cancer is the second most diagnosed cancer in the world.
Brazil's National Cancer Institute said about 53,000 women in Brazil will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
This is one of a series of events called Pink October to draw attention to the disease and to encourage women to get mammograms.
Throughout the month, landmarks around the world will display pink lights.
