
Mobile, AL – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's tennis player Brittni Fausett dominated the first and third sets on the way to a first-round victory at the ITA Small College National Championships Thursday morning in Mobile, Alabama. Fausett posted a 6-0, 3-6, 6-0 victory over Laura Krull of Grinnell College.
Fausett, a senior from Cameron Yoe High School, controlled the first set, sweeping her way to the 6-0 win. Krull took the upper hand in set two, grabbing the 6-3 win. But the third set was all Fausett as she rolled to another 6-0 win to put the match away.
Fausett is the #3 seed in the main draw and is guaranteed at least a fourth place finish. She will now face #2 seed Lok Sze-Leung of Middlebury College in the semifinals at 8:30 AM on Friday. Sze-Leung advanced with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ava Sadeghi of Vassar College. The tournament will conclude with 8:30 AM matches on Saturday in the singles draw.
Fausett is the first UMHB female and first Cru singles player to qualify for the ITA National Championship. The UMHB men's doubles team of Eric White and Daniel Quinones finished second at the ITA Small College National Championships in the fall of 2006.
