Belton, TX – For the second time this season, the
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team is gearing up for a road
showdown with a nationally-ranked opponent. This week, the
second-ranked Cru will travel to Pineville, Louisiana
to face 21st-ranked Louisiana College this Saturday.
UMHB is 5-0 overall and has a 2-0 mark in American Southwest Conference
play after posting a 49-31 victory over Texas Lutheran University last Saturday
in Belton. Louisiana College is 4-1 overall
and also has a 2-0 league mark after beating East Texas Baptist
University 29-17 in Marshall last weekend. The two teams were picked to
finish first and second in the ASC in the league's Preseason Coaches and
Media Poll this season. The Cru beat Wesley College
32-25 in Delaware in the team's previous top 25 match-up this season.
LC's only loss was a 25-22 defeat at the hands of those same Wolverines
in Pineville.
UMHB won last year's meeting 36-10 after falling
behind 10-0 in the first quarter. The Cru leads the all-time series
between the two teams 11-0 and intercepted a pass in the end zone on the
game's final play to preserve a 42-38 victory
over the Wildcats in the last meeting in Pineville two years ago.
"They are a very talented team with a lot of good
athletes on both sides of the ball," Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg
said. "They have our full attention and we know we will get their best
shot. This will be a real test for our football
team and we have to be ready to play for the full 60 minutes."
The Cru has won 29 consecutive regular season games and 22 straight ASC contests. The game will be broadcast locally on KTEM Radio with the pre-game show starting at 10:30 AM.
