UPDATE: Man Shot to Death in Killeen After Argument - kcentv.com - KCEN HD - Waco, Temple, and Killeen

(KCEN) UPDATE -- We're learning more about the 24-year old man that was shot and killed Thursday night in Killeen.

Police responded to a 911 call just after 11p.m. at an apartment in the 32-hundred block of Hereford Lane where the victim was pronounced dead.

"Gotta put it in Gods hands. One day you're here, the next your gone, ain't no day ever promised," said Killeen resident Laquint Ford.

The life of Latternace Deshawn Newsome was taken when a fight broke out between he and another an unknown man.

"It was around 2, 2:30a.m, I came back and I saw police everywhere," said neighbor Babajide Fagbola.

Friends of the victim said he was visiting a friend who was celebrating a birthday.

Things got out of control, when a gun was drawn.

"This is Killeen, Fort Hood, people coming from everywhere, a whole bunch of testosterone and stuff like that going around," said Ford.

"There's no way that we can predict when things are going to happen like that, and unfortunately that's what most homicides are you know when someone just snaps," said Killeen Police Sergeant Carroll Smith.

But this isn't the first fatal shooting in the area.

And although some residents said it's a safe and quiet neighborhood.

"Any neighborhoods pretty nice as long as you keep your nose clean and do what your suppose to do," said Ford.

Others disagree.

"They stole my electronics and like two weeks ago they stole my bike here at the same time," said Fagbola.

Close friends of the victims said he was a Florida native who had children and wasn't involved in senseless acts.

They said he was quiet, kept to himself, and was just looking to better his life.

"We want to know who did this and whoever is responsible, needs to pay for it," said Smith.

The victims friends said he had just gotten out of the military and was trying to save up a little money to move away.

(KCEN) --  A man is dead after an argument in Killeen turns deadly.

Twenty four year old Latternace Newsome, who is from Florida, was shot and killed just after 11:00 Thursday night.

Newsome got into an argument with another man at an apartment in the 3200 block of Hereford Lane. The suspect then shot newsome and ran. "Right now we're just doing the investigation and anybody that knows anything about the shooting please call us," says Carroll Smith, with the Killeen Police Department.

Friends of the victim say he was a nice guy who just got out of the Army and was trying to save money to move away from the area. "I've never witnessed a gun shot before, but I'm not really surprised because most of the guys that I see, I mean, around here they look suspicious,"Babajide Fagbola, a neighbor.
