A&M’s Joeckel, Moore Named Midseason All-Americans

Posted: Updated:

Texas A&M juniors Luke Joeckel and Damontre Moore were named to the  midseason All-America teams selected by SportsIllustrated.com and CBSSports.com.

Being added to national award "watch lists" for their strong early season play were quarterback Johnny Manziel (Manning Award) and wide receiver Mike Evans (Biletnikoff Award).

Joeckel, an offensive tackle from Arlington, Texas, has helped pave the way for one of the nation's most explosive offenses. The Aggies are on pace to break school records for scoring, passing and total offense. A&M is one of just two teams in the NCAA FBS that ranks in the top 20 in scoring (No. 5, 47.0 points per game), total offense (No. 6, 543.7 yards per game), rushing offense (No. 13, 235.8) and passing offense (No. 20, 307.8).

Moore, a defensive end from Rowlett, Texas, has been a disruptive force on the defensive front for the Aggies. He leads the team in tackles (52), sacks (8.5) and tackles for loss (15.0). He is on pace to become the first defensive lineman to lead the team in tackles since 1993. He is tied for the national lead in sacks with 1.42 per game and tied for second in tackles for loss with 2.50 per game.

Manziel, from Kerrville, Texas, has already broken the Southeastern Conference's record for total offense twice with a 557-yard performance against Arkansas followed by a 576-yard game vs. Louisiana Tech. He has been named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week twice and the SEC Freshman of the Week four times in six games. Earlier this week, he was named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week.

Evans, from Galveston, Texas, joins senior teammates Ryan Swope and Uzoma Nwachukwu on the Biletnikoff list. He leads the Aggies with 36 catches for 549 yards, and he's led the team in catches five times in six games. He's already had three 100-yard receiving days, including a career-high 137 against Louisiana Tech last week.
