(KCEN) -- Flags at the Capitol building in Austin were flown at half-staff yesterday in honor of a state Senator who passed away.
Senator Mario Gallegos Jr. died on Tuesday at a Houston hospital.
His spokesman says he died of complications from a 2007 liver transplant.
Gallegos was elected in 1995 and was the first Hispanic state Senator to serve Harris County.
Before that, he served in the state House of Representatives.
Gallegos was 62-years-old.
