(KCEN) -- Astronomers may have brought us one step closer in the search for another earth.
A study published in the journal "Nature" revealed the discovery of a new planet with roughly the same mass as the earth.
The newly-discovered planet is located in Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to our own sun, but researchers say it's too close to the sun to support life.
The planet orbits its sun-like star, circling it once every three-and-a-half days.
But there are some skeptics and researchers say they plan to make their data available to other so their findings can be tested.
