(KCEN) -- X-ray machines at airports caused so much controversy among travelers that now they're being removed from major airports.
The TSA is replacing them with newer machines.
The website Pro-Publica is reporting those X-ray body scanners are being removed from high-traffic airports like LAX, DFW, JFK and Chicago O'Hare.
Those scanners got a bad rap from travelers over privacy, because the X-ray images could be revealing.
The new machines known as millimeter-wave scanners will display a generic drawing of a person's body, instead of a detailed body scan image.
The new scanners will streamline the process and will get travelers through security more quickly.
