(KCEN) -- A former Marine in north Texas raised money for a war-time buddy, a dog he bonded with in Afghanistan and wanted to bring home to the states.
Former local Marine Carlos Plata spent two deployments with Shaun Duling. The last time Duling went to Afghanistan by himself, but as soon as he stepped foot on foreign soil, a special friendship was formed between him and a dog.
Duling said, "He kinda took to me and since I got there everywhere I went he was pretty much by my side or behind me."
But the time came when Duling had to come home and the dog, who he named Bolt, would have to stay.
Immediately an effort was started to bring Bolt to the U.S. so he could always be by Duling's side.
That effort was a success, thanks to the website nowzad.com. Duling raised the $4,000 he needed to bring Bolt stateside. He expects to bring his buddy to his new home before Duling's birthday, which is November 15.
