(KCEN) -- The U.S. is fully cooperating with Japanese authorities who are investigating two sailors accused of raping a woman in Okinawa.
State Department Spokesman Mark Toner said the U.S. government takes the allegations seriously and will help Japanese investigators.
Toner said, "I can just say that we expect the highest standards of conduct from all U.S. service members in Japan and the Department of State as well as the Department of Defense are going to work closely with our Japanese partners on this matter going forward."
The two U.S. Navy sailors were arrested after allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman when she was walking home from work early on October 16.
