Houston Woman's Purse Deflects Bullet During Robbery

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- A Houston woman is fortunate to be alive after she was shot by two masked men who wanted her purse.

And it was that purse that actually saved her life.

Sixty-one-year-old Dollie O'Day was returning home around 2 a.m. after spending the evening with her daughter.

When she walked to her back door, two thieves attacked and demanded her purse.

When she said no, one of the robbers opened fire.

A total of four shots were fired at her.

O'Day was hit twice in the leg.

But one of the other rounds would have hit her in the chest.

It turned out that her purse was in the right place, at the right time.

O'Day said, "But there's a bullet hole right there. And I think hanging onto the purse saved my life because I had it over my chest."

The suspects got away with O'Day's iPhone.

Investigators hope to use the GPS on her phone to track down the suspects.
