Obama Appears on 'The Late Show', Speaks About Recent Rape Comment by Politician

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- President Barack Obama is on a round-the-clock campaign blitz through crucial battleground states, but he did take some time out of his busy schedule to appear on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno".

The President commented on a recent controversial remark on rape and abortion by Richard Mourdock, a male politician.

Obama said Mourdock's comments are not only hard to understand, they are just wrong.

The President said, "I don't know how these guys come up with these ideas. Let me make a very simple proposition. Rape is rape. It is a crime. And so these various distinctions about rape don't make sense to me. They don't make any sense to me. The second thing this underscores is exactly why we don't want a bunch of politicians, mostly male, making decisions on women's health care."

Mourdock has come under fire from politicians on both sides for saying that when a pregnancy results from rape, it is "something god intended."

The President also said that women are capable of making their own decisions and that intrusions by politicians is part of what's at stake in the presidential election.
