(KCEN) -- President Barack Obama is encouraging people who live along the east coast to prepare for Sandy.
President Obama visited the headquarters of the federal emergency management agency to get an update on emergency plans.
Already tens of thousands of people are being told to evacuate coastal areas of Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and other flood-prone spots along the east coast.
"Check on your neighbor. Check on your friend. Make sure they are prepared. If we do then we're going to get through this storm just fine, but we're going to have to make sure we are vigilant and vigilant for a couple of days," Obama said.
When asked if he thought the storm could affect voting in the election the president said they do not anticipate that but they would take a look at that potential problem.
